THE VALLEY OF THE BUTTERFLIES

The Valley of the Butterflies (Petaloudes in Greek) is one of the most beautiful natural
spots on the island of Rhodes. Located 25 km from Rhodes Town, the valley attracts
thousand of visitors during the summer months to see the great number of butterflies and
tiger moths, which settle there each summer in order to breed. The amazing wooded valley
with small flowing streams and waterfalls running throughout is also home to liquid amber
trees, which from June till August are covered with the yellow and black wings of the moths.
Landscaped paths, wooden bridges and stairways guide you through the picturesque valley,
where you can enjoy a beautiful, peaceful walk. An uphill path leads to the Monastery of
the Virgin of Kalopetra and you'll find a souvenir shop at the entrance of the park.
