MONOLITHOS CASTLE
Monolithos Castle is a "must see" while in Rhodes. The castle was built on top of a rock,
which is where its name comes from (monos lithos = single rock).  Inside the castle there is a
small chapel (15th century). From the castle you have a fantastic view of the West Coast
and the small offshore islands. Monolithos Castle was built by Knights to guard the sea
route and to protect the locals from pirate raids. The sunset seen from here is amazing.
From the castle a road leads to a lovely private beach.

The nearby village of Monolithos populates about 500 residents. It is a picturesque
traditional village, built in a natural area, with a Greek village style, looking out on the
Aegean Sea. The stone houses are built on steep roads and preserve many of the elements of
traditional architecture. The village was named after the huge rock where the Monolithos
Castle stands.
