RHODES OLD TOWN
The Old Town is the most popular tourist attraction in Rhodes and is the most visited
Medieval City in all of Europe. The amazing Old Town is surrounded by fortresses and
medieval walls with seven gates and is divided into two parts. The first is the northern part
where the Knights of St. John lived which includes the Acropolis of the Knights and the
Palace of the Grand Masters. The second is the southern part of Hora, which includes the
mosques and Ottoman architecture where the commoners once lived.

The best place to start your tour of the Old Town is the cobblestone Avenue of the
Knights. Its buildings stretch in a 600 meter long unbroken wall of honey colored stone
blocks, and is outlined by huge doorways and arched windows that reflect Gothic styles of
architecture. There are also many museums in the Old Town as well as the ancient remains
of the Temple of Aphrodite.
